Charles Wesley UMC ~ The Hunger Church has officially closed its ministry on June 30, 2020. The building is now closed to the public.
Church membership rolls and archives have been transferred to Wesley UMC and inquiries relative to membership can be made via the Wesley church office. Inquiries about the building can be made by contacting Mr. Nelson Neil, Trustee, Arlington District Trustees at nelsonneil@vaumc.org. Mr. Neil will respond to your inquiry. In an emergency, a phone message can be left at 703-389-7436. Charles Wesley UMC leaves a rich legacy of ministry to the McLean community, having received its charter on Palm Sunday, March 30, 1958 when 114 worshipers gathered at Kent Gardens Elementary School. In the 62 years that followed, this church has ministered to hundreds of women, men, and children here in the McLean Community and around the world. Over 200 Eagle Scouts and countless other children have been nurtured through the scouting program sponsored by the church, and the church has been a meeting place for many community and support groups. While our hearts are heavy that our time in this place has come to a close, as the hymn says, “The church is not a building, the church is not a steeple, the church is not a resting place, the church is a people.” We, the people of Charles Wesley UMC - The Hunger Church, will carry the blessings we have received in this place into the world and the ministry will go on. Thanks be to God. God’s grace and blessing be with you and best wishes to all.
